Those stores are very special and they are precious. Every company has been established for over 100 years, some more than 200 years. For example, Dabei Photographer was the most popular photographer in the 1950s. Even Chairman Mao, Prime Minister Zhou and all China’s famous generals have had photos taken there. Another store is called Reifuxiang, which is famous for selling clothing fabric. It started its business in the Qing Dynasty. All of these old companies are the pride of China.

The old one was called Dongan Market. It was a market doing wholesale business. After it was acquired by a government-owned organisation, it was redecorated and changed into New Dongan Department Store. This department store focuses on selling luxury products. Any big brand you can think of, you will find it in there. It doesn’t matter if you don’t buy anything there; it is a huge department store which is worth a visit just to have a look.
