Great Ocean Road, Surf World Surfing Museum, Bells Beach

A trundle around the Great Ocean Road and some of the surf coast’s highlights gives you insight into the long and proud surfing culture in this part of the world, home of the famous annual Bells Beach Classic.

Starting the tour

Torquay, Victoria.

Section 1:
Directions:

The museum is located on Beach Road Torquay. As you head towards the Great Ocean Road on the Surf Coast Highway (B100) Beach road is on your left!

Stopover:

Whether you’re a surfer at heart or have never even tried your hand at wave riding there’s something for you at this museum. You can learn how waves form, be educated on surf culture and famous surfers as well as seeing videos and boards or try your hand at surfing on a mechanical ball. You will leave really wanting to get in the ocean and have a go!

Section 2:
Directions:

Head south on Pearl St toward Anderson St. Continue on Pride St. Turn right at Bell St. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit on to the Surf Coast Hwy. Continue for a couple of kilometres as it becomes the Great Ocean Rd. Turn left at Bells Blvd (there will be signs to tell you that the turn off’s coming up). Turn left at Bones Rd. Continue on Bells Beach Rd and you will hit the beach!

Stopover:

You have to check out this world-famous beach, when the waves are big they are really, really big! Your may even be lucky enough to catch some fantastic surfers carving the huge waves! If you can time your trip to tie in with one of the many surf competitions going on there, you will entertained all day long!
